This page is devoted to warning politically conservative moviegoers of theatrical releases that contain liberal ‘political’ messages. This can be anything from a 10 second visual or one-liners to the entire movie being dedicated to a liberal ‘political’ position(s).

I have fashioned a rating system that is patterned after what is used by the United States Armed Forces. They use the DEFense readiness CONdition (DEFCON) nomenclature – DEFCON 5 through DEFCON 1.

DEFCON 5 is used to designate normal peacetime readiness and from there descends in increasingly severe situations. DEFCON 1 is the state of highest readiness and represents the expectation of actual imminent attack.

LIBeral CON (LIBCON).  Here the word ‘con’ is not an abbreviation for the word ‘CONdition’. This is the actual word ‘con’ which means to trick or deceive.

LIBCON 5
Does not contain any liberal ‘political’ message.

LIBCON 4
Has infrequent and mild references to a liberal ‘political’ position(s).

LIBCON 3
Has overt but infrequent references to a liberal ‘political’ position(s).

LIBCON 2
Has overt and continuous references (or theme) to a liberal ‘political’ position(s).

LIBCON 1
The entire movie’s theme is overtly supportive of a liberal ‘political’ position(s).

To place these ratings in context I have provided some examples of previous releases and how I would have rated them using the LIBCON scale:

The X-Files: I Want To Believe

Mulder and Scully are walking down the corridor of a federal office building and on the wall is a picture of President Bush and Vice-President Cheney. The camera stops on the pictures and what you hear next are those high-pitched notes from the X-Files theme song where the notes go up and down in that alien sounding way.

Hey, that brought a smile to my face because it was mildly funny. This was the only political moment in the movie and so it would receive a rating of LIBCON 4.

Slither

This was a horror flick where humans morph into these creepy organisms. While they are ‘transforming’ they acquire a taste for human flesh. At one point in the movie some of the town’s ‘morphing’ citizens corner their mayor but he manages to escape. One of the half-human citizens says and I paraphrase, “That’s just like a Republican to run.”

Who would have thought there would be any political content in a movie of this nature but Hollywood finds a way.  This would receive a LIBCON 4 rating.

The Constant Gardner

The movie opens with a press conference of sorts where an attendee asks the English diplomat a series of leading questions that absolutely trashes the American presence in Iraq. This individual not only asks questions but also makes political statements. Comments like "putting tanks over diplomacy” stream out of this individual’s mouth. This scene lasts at least 2 minutes (a long time in the movie world). It was so offensive (what was being said) that I was tempted to stand up in the theater and respond to what the actor was spewing.

Other than the opening scene the rest of the movie was politically neutral. Therefore, this movie would receive a LIBCON 3 rating for the single blatant, over the top, liberal political message.

The Happening

People around the world are committing suicide for no apparent reason. As it turns out the plant life is releasing airborne toxins that are inducing humankind to commit suicide. Why? At the end of the movie it is inferred that the plant life is doing this in self-defense because the evil Homo sapiens are causing global warming.

There were hints during the course of the movie that global warming could be playing a role in the suicides but it did not become clear until the end of the movie. The entire movie was built around the false premise that there is man-made global warming underway. The movie was tainted by this overarching theme therefore it would receive a rating of LIBCON 2.

Michael Moore Movies and Their Ilk

These movies are obviously liberal in their content and ones I avoid seeing. Some recent examples are ‘Milk’ and ‘W’. I know what they are from just seeing the trailers – it’s hard to hide the liberal themes in these movies. They would probably receive a LIBCON rating of 2 or 1.

How it Works

I attend 100 – 150 movies per year. I enjoy all types of movies so there is a high probability that I will view a movie you may be interested in seeing. I am generally able to see new releases within one week of their opening. Once I have seen a movie I will update the website with its LIBCON rating.

I will carry the history of the movies I have rated until they are no longer playing at our local AMC theaters. I will then drop them from the page in order to make room for new releases.

If I know in advance that a movie is a LIBCON 2 or 1 I will not go see it. Sometimes I may be  fooled by the advertising and inadvertently end up watching the movie. That doesn’t mean you should have to suffer through the movie too. Come to this website for the LIBCON ratings and avoid the cost and frustration of being subjected to Hollywood liberalism.

I will not provide any comments as to the quality of the movie.
